Christie Brinkley was born on February 2, 1954 in Monroe, Michigan. She was educated at Paul Revere Junior High School and graduated from Le Lycee Francais de Los Angeles. In 1973 she moved to Paris to study art. While there she was discovered by American photographer, Errol Sawyer. She went on to meet people from Elite Model Management agency who called Eileen Ford. Brinkley returned to California, met Nina Blanchard, and her career took off. Her work included national ad campaigns, appearances on the covers of Glamour magazine, Vogue, Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issuess, and other leading magazines. CoverGirl cosmetics signed her to a twenty-five year contract, the first of many major contracts she has had with numerous companies.
Brinkley's acting debut was in National Lampoon's Vacation. She has had television appearances in shows such as Mad About You on NBC, the finale of the The Cosby Show. In the comedy Parks and Recreation, she had a guest role. She hosted Celebrity Weddings InStyle. With Chuck Norris, she appeared in the infomercials for the Total Gym.
On Broadway she played Roxie Hart in the musical Chicago. She went on to play the role in the national touring company.
