Deep-sea explorer Brock Lovett has at last reached the most famous shipwreck of all--the Titanic. Emerging with a safe believed to hold "The Heart of the Ocean"--A legendary diamond--he finds only a drawing of a beautiful woman, wearing it. During a television interview, Brock shows the drawing on camera, and a 100-year-old woman named Rose Calvert recognizes the woman in the drawing--herself! Brock invites Rose to visit his ship over the wreck, and she tells the story of her experience on Titanic's ill-fated voyage. Rose and her mother are penniless, so Rose's engagement to steel magnate heir Cal Hockley represents their salvation, but Rose has come to loathe him. They board Titanic at Southampton, to return to America and a society wedding. Jack Dawson and his friend Fabrizio are in 3rd class, after winning their tickets in a poker game. When Jack dissuades Rose from committing suicide, it forges a bond between them. Later, Rose commissions a portrait, wearing the priceless blue diamond Cal has given her, which Jack draws. Hockley resorts to desperate measures to keep them apart, but the collision with an iceberg, and the sinking of the 'unsinkable' ship seals the fate of all aboard. |
